I am pleased to announce that Jack Austin arrived on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 9:12am much to my and LOML’s surprise! He was 3 weeks early, but coming in at 7 lbs and 14 oz – 19 inches long. Yowzers! I am grateful he decided to come early since if he had waited until his due date I may have ended up with a 10 lbs baby and a definite c-section. As it is, everyone was surprised at how full-term he looked! :)
Here are some of his pics on our Flickr Account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mjg2/sets/72157594469874077/
Everyone is doing well. My water broke around 1am on Sunday and we headed into L&D. They weren’t sure that my water really broke since the test they did was inclusive. I hadn’t had any contractions when I called the Dr on call, but they started once we headed to the hospital. I kept on leaking fluid which is why they kept me there for observation for a few hours. Around 5am I was officially admitted since I was 5cm dilated and contractions were getting more regular (and more painful!). By 8:30am, I was a full 10cm dilated and ready to go. Unfortunately, my doctor was out of town, but his partner on call was great. Jack had a little trouble coming out causing his heart rate to go down a little. The Doctor wanted to get an OR ready just in case we needed to have an emergency c-section. Luckily, with some more pushing sets and a vacuum, Jack was able to be delivered sans c-section. I had an epidural which was a beautiful thing and Dad, Jack, & I are well. Tired but well!
We were discharged yesterday so are settling in at home. He is amazing and I can’t stop smiling that this little guy is actually here home with us. As I am typing this he is sleeping on my lap in a sling looking oh so sweet! I never thought this day would be here. I haven’t slept but a few hours here and there since he is quite the feeder. I hope my milk comes in soon – I am hopeful that it will. LOML has been wonderful and spending loads of time bonding with him which is just great. I am not super sleep deprived yet, but I think that’s cuz I still have some adrenaline coursing through my body. I am sure it’ll hit me soon. Jack doesn’t like to be in the bassinette by himself – more comfortable having either LOML or I hold him. Hopefully, in a little time, he’ll feel more comfortable being laid down on his own. For now, we’ll just keep him close.
My parents are flying in tomorrow night. LOML’s family who lives in town have already seen him loads and have been wonderful help. Overall, we are doing well on this end – just getting to know our new son. :)
I still honestly can’t believe he is here. I am sure it’ll take some time to have it all sink in. Sometimes, I feel like I have to pinch myself to see if this all for real. We have waited so long for this day and I am just moved to tears at the thought that our miracle is finally here. So though we are tired, we couldn’t be happier. Thanks for everyone who reads this blog and has offered all the support and best wishes during our journey. I couldn’t have made it without all of your support.
In any case, I thought I’d update everyone with the news on our end. Hope everyone is well! And I’ll update soon once we are all settled in and I have more time.

Congratulations! I found your blog thru Rebekah’s Recollections, and I have enjoyed reading about all your baby stuff. I’m so excited that Jack is here and you guys are going to be great parents, I’m sure :) Congratulations!
