Getting Stuff Done!

Posted by Me Thu, 07 Dec 2006 21:42:00 GMT

The last few days have just whizzed by. I had my Baby Shower last Saturday and that was a lot of fun. My MIL & SIL did a wonderful job organizing it and Jack got a lot of cool stuff. That kid will be styled out when he arrives. :) I am touched by everyone’s excitement. Some of the nurses from the Fertility Center came to the Shower and that was really great. They were so nice to me while we were going through all the IVF stuff and it was nice to catch up with them.

The rest of the weekend was spent organizing things for the nursery and doing a few loads of laundry. Monday I freaked out a little since I woke up more swollen than I was used to. I took my blood pressure which seemed all well and the swelling did go down after I took a shower and such. I did gain more weight which wasn’t all that great to see on the scale but nothing to write home about I guess.

On Wednesday, we had another appointment with Dr. H. My blood pressure was a little high (well, high for me) but I think I was particularly nervous and I didn’t like the nurse who took it. I wasn’t used to her. Also, right before, I had to step on the scale and it was confirmed that I gained 4 lbs since the last appointment! Yowzers! Considering my high blood pressure reading, they had me pee in a cup to check that no protein was in there. Luckily, there wasn’t so all was ok. Dr. H came in and said though my blood pressure reading was high for me – it wasn’t high enough to be of concern. Overall, I measured right on target and currently in line with an average baby. Jack’s heartbeat was nice and strong at 138 bpm.

Dr. H took his time to answer all of my questions. I have felt more bruised around areas near my belly button and wanted to mention it. He said that that is normal since a lot of stretching is going on and that can cause the aches and pains. Also, I wanted to check that my weight gain is in check and he said it was. As long I haven’t drastically changed my diet, they aren’t too concerned about the weight gain. He said that the main thing they are concerned about is that baby is moving appropriately. He gave me a Kick Count Flow Sheet to record my checks and told us that if we notice any decrease or changes to give the office a call or go straight to L&D at the hospital. So far, Jack has been thumping away and I sure hope he continues that way. :)

Tonight we have a Basic Infant Care class at the hospital. Hopefully, it will be interesting and informative. We have a Breastfeeding class next Tuesday and that should be it as far as any classes we signed up for.

Other than baby, I have been busy working and getting the stuff set for X-mas. I am nearly there with all the gift stuff and slowly but surely getting ready for Jack’s arrival. I have to admit it’s been harder to get around or sleep for that matter now that there is more of me. Jack has not dropped yet so breathing is still tough and the heartburn is at an all-time high!

I need to get back into my walking regiment. I have been a bit neglectful of all that since I get so tired at the end of the day. I get up about 2-3 times a night just to pee and then tossing & turning the rest of the night. It’s all good though – as I have been saying before – I don’t care how uncomfortable I am as long as Jack is healthy and happy. Nothing (and I mean NOTHING) else matters. :)

We go back to Dr H’s in about 2 weeks for another check-up. I hope everything checks out ok and my blood pressure stays ok that time. Maybe I’ll get used to the new nurse and won’t freak out. :) Once can only hope. Hopefully, I won’t break the scale either! LOL :)

Anyways, that’s the update. I have some things to return at Babies R Us this weekend and a few more things to organize this weekend – in addition to all the regular household chores that have been neglected. Never-ending stuff, I tell you! :)

I hope everyone is staying happy and safe during this crazy month filled with holiday stuff! It’s weird to think that we have about 8 weeks more to go before Jack could potentially makes his debut! Crazy! I am still worried which I know will never stop – I just hope all goes ok and Jack makes it into the world safely.

Posted by Me Fri, 01 Dec 2006 22:00:00 GMT

Yep, another week is ending. I have my other Baby Shower this weekend (Saturday). It is hosted by my MIL & SIL. It should be fun. It should be a smaller group than the one I had a few weeks ago with my relatives from LA.

Jack is getting heavier to carry around and I feel more BH contractions. They aren’t necessarily the painful kind but the kind that makes your belly very tight. It’s weird. I have continued to do my kick counts and Jack is still being pretty active and sitting high. He’s still getting the hiccups and stomping away at my bladder since I still have to get up 2-3 times a night for a bathroom break.

Other than that, work has been busy and I have been more tired. The temps here in Vegas have dropped drastically in the last week. We’ve been experiencing daily highs of the 40’s! Can anyone say “brrr”! Seriously, it’s been so cold (Very cold for Vegas!). No snow though that can still happen. The last 2 years we have had a snow day here in Vegas. That’s what you get for living in the desert – extreme weather patterns. In any case, I try to keep warm by layering up and getting snug underneath my Wool Comforter. :)

LOML & I are still going through our list of getting things checked off the list. This last week we picked our Pediatrician. The practice is real close to our home so that’s nice and we like the Doctor we met. She’s very nice and competent – always a good combination. :)

We have some other classes coming up at the hospital. One next week on Infant Safety Care and then one the following week on Breastfeeding. Hopefully, they’ll be nice and informative.

LOML has been working a ton…so much to do! My contracts have been keeping me busy but not nearly as much as his. Part of it is the fact that I end up fading towards the end of the day and honestly nothing is more important than staying healthy for the little guy I am carrying. Nothing! If that requires me to back off work a little so be it. :)

Besides all the baby stuff, I have been finishing up all the X-mas stuff. Overall, I think I am in good shape in regards to the whole deal. Haven’t really decorated the house but with the pregnancy I honestly don’t have the energy to do any decorating and what happens if Jack decides to come early (I hope he won’t but still a possibility). I don’t want to live in a house full of X-mas decorations until Spring! ;) Since I am not hosting any of the holiday festivities, it’s not a big deal. My SIL is really big into it. She always has X-mas day. :)

All righty, that’s the update. So far so good. We have another appt. with Dr. H this coming Wednesday. Hope all looks good and I didn’t gain a ridiculous amount of weight. At least I know my Blood Pressure is looking good and staying steady. We had an in-home physical this morning since we are applying for Life Insurance. The guy who came out said all looked good in regards to my Blood Pressure. So yay! Hope that stays that way.

Well – back to work! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

31 Weeks

Posted by Me Sun, 26 Nov 2006 02:53:00 GMT

I’ll be 31 Weeks tomorrow. :) I can’t believe I am already in the 3rd Trimester. My due date of 1/28/07 doesn’t seem too far off. Yowzers!

I am certainly starting to feel the effects of Jack’s size in my belly. Finding a comfortable position to sleep in is getting a bit tougher but I do enjoy feeling him kick throughout the day & night. As of late, he’s been having more hiccups which according to Dr. H is a good sign. He likes to hear that the baby has hiccups – apparently a sign of a healthy baby. I hope that’s true! :) Speaking of Dr. H we had an appointment with him last Wednesday and everything checked out. Jack’s heartbeat came in around 140 and my fundal length was measuring at 30-31 weeks – so right on target. Since we didn’t do the whole Pam Smear/Culture checkup in the beginning I had the pleasure of doing it at the last appointment. Boy, are those fun. I hadn’t had anyone “down there” since my Dr. Bow Tie days! :)

Anyways, overall the appointment went well. I see him in 2 weeks again since now we are on the every other week schedule. Once we are in January, I’ll switch over to the once a week schedule. Yay!

This coming Wednesday we have our first “meet & greet” with a potential Pediatrician. We asked Dr. H for more recommendations since the last one he recommended unfortunately didn’t take our insurance. I’ll be making a few more “meet & greet” appointments and hopefully we can settle on a good one before Jack makes his appearance.

In other news, I saw my parents, my sis and her fiance, and a slew of relatives from my mom’s side a week ago. I had the first of 2 Baby Showers and it was a lot of fun. In lieu of actual gifts, a lot of my relatives gave us some checks to help with the preparation of baby’s arrival. Every little bit helps and LOML and I certainly appreciated everyone’s kindness. My parents were generous enough to give us a stroller that comes with the Car Seat so that’s pretty cool. We haven’t installed it yet in the car – one of the many things on our “To Do” List. I have another Baby Shower on LOML’s side this coming Saturday (12/2) so that should be fun. It was great to see family and getting pampered for a while with good food. I’ll see them next in a couple of months when Jack is due to arrive.

Thanksgiving we spent with LOML’s parents and it was really nice. We opted to go out to eat instead of slaving over a hot stove. It worked out really well. The place they picked out offered a really yummy Turkey dinner and the great thing was we didn’t have to clean up. :) Stress-free Thanksgiving works for me!

Other than that, I have been busy working and finishing up our Christmas shopping. I am pretty much done. I try to do most of it via the Internet since I absolutely hate the crowds at the mall/stores. Gotta’ love the Internet! :) I have a few more things to finish up but overall that should be pretty set. Yay! I am waiting for the things to arrive so I can wrap them and be done. Ahh – I can’t wait!

Despite everything going on – you’d think I’d be distracted enough, I still have my moments of anxiety. I don’t think it ever goes away. I still get some scary dreams (on the off chance when I actually do manage to get some shuteye!) which aren’t so pleasant. Jack tries to reassure me though by offering up a swift kick so it makes it all a little better.

I do have to admit that I am getting more nervous about the last few months as the reality sets in that eventually he has to come out. Also, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t worry that something could go wrong. The Childbirth classes were pretty informative but also admittedly a tad intimidating. I am so grateful for every week I pass and continue to pray that all goes well and that Jack arrives without any complications. My biggest worry is and will forever be his welfare. I will endure anything as long as he is safe and healthy.

All righty, I am going to take it easy for the rest of the evening – take a shower and have a snack. The last few weeks have been really busy with family gatherings, work, and preparations for both baby and X-mas. I can’t imagine that the next few weeks/months will be any different. Days are just whizzing by at a speed that’s hard to comprehend.

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving and managed to enjoy some good family/friend time.

Yesterday we had our big appointment. I drank my orange flavored glucose test drink prior to my appointment and got my blood drawn. I hope I don’t fail the test. I really, really, really don’t want to have to come back for the 3-hour version of the test and find out I test positive for diabetes. Yikes! They said they’d call me if I failed! Ulghh! I really hope I don’t get the call.

After my blood test, we had our ultrasound to check on Jack. He has grown so much and I am happy to say that the cysts are gone and my placenta has moved up so all is well. The u/s lady didn’t see anything else wrong with him either and declared him to look great. As usual, it was amazing to see him so much bigger. And bigger he is. Apparently, “little” Jack now weighs in at 3 lbs! 3 lbs!!! Chunky little monkey, huh? That puts him in the 91%! His feet measure about 2 inches now and he had a nice resting heart rate of 129. Oh, and yes, he is still a boy. He let us peak between his legs again! :)

Since the lady had some time in her schedule, we went ahead and did the 3D ultrasound. That was really cool. Jack is starting to look like more of a baby. Since he is already getting bigger, it wasn’t surprising to see him starting to run out of room. He had his foot right up against his head. At first he was just slumbering using the placenta as his pillow, but eventually he got himself moving. He kept opening and closing his mouth…at one point in time even sticking out his tongue. It was amazing and oh so cute. He even smiled at some point and tried to eat his umbilical cord which is not good – but then again thank goodness babies aren’t born with teeth! :)

In any case, I could gush on forever but I won’t. It was great to see him and check out what he does in there. He seemed content for the time-being and that made my heart soar. :) We’ve got some cool pics of him and the lady was really nice taking her time to get some good shots.

After our very cool u/s, we had our appointment w/ Dr. H. It was short and sweet since he had to rush off to an Emergency C-section. However, before he left, he said everything checked out well. Cervix long and closed. Cysts gone. Placenta moved up. Blood Pressure is good. Weight gain is excellent. Measuring on target. Now, if I just can make sure I passed that Glucose Test I’ll be happier. :)

So, overall we had a good appointment. I go back in 3 weeks. After that one, I’ll be switching to every other week so on and so forth! :) I hope all continues to go well. I am going to start my kick counts to make sure Jack continues to thrive as he should. I sure hope he does. :)

Last night also marked the first (out of three) Childbirth Education Classes given by the hospital. It was good. Very informative since it isn’t a Lamaze class but covers everything from what to expect when you are admitted to medications etc. The class was pretty full, but everyone seemed pretty nice. The instructor was thorough and knowledgeable so I think it was good that we signed up for them. We have another one next Thursday at which point we’ll actually get a tour of the Labor & Delivery Ward. That’ll be cool.

We are also trying to line up a pediatrician. Dr. H gave us a recommendation but unfortunately that Dr doesn’t take our insurance. Bummer! :( So back to the drawing board. We’ll have to ask our Doc for another one when we see him on November 22nd. Hopefully, we can find one we like and who takes our insurance.

Well, I have written a novel. I really do need to try to get on here more often so I don’t end up writing a huge post every time. Time has been more limited though between work, appointments, house chores, classes, and nursery decorating! :(

I hope everyone is well!

Back Home

Posted by Me Tue, 24 Oct 2006 15:41:00 GMT

LOML & I are back from our lovely Hawaii trip. I meant to be more prolific in my blog writing, but alas I ended up avoiding the laptop except for the morning email checking. In any case, we got back on Sunday and are already back in the full swing of work. Ahh, lovely! It’s taken me a bit of time to get back into it all especially since we took a red eye flight back to Las Vegas so Sunday was spent trying to unpack, start laundry, and in general just catch up on some sleep before work started up again.

However, I think we are settling back into everyday life. Amidst work tasks, I am finishing up the last bit of laundry. Woohoo! :) Jack (yes, we settled on a name!) is kicking along on and off all day – but particularly at night. It’s lovely and comforting and I pray that he continues to do it more often and consistently. I have even gotten to the point where I can watch my belly move when he kicks! It’s crazy cool! :)

My fingers are still swollen and a bit achey. I think I have a case of pregnancy-related carpal tunnel syndrome. I haven’t been able to wear my wedding band or engagement ring for a week now so I look like some knocked up single chick! Oh well! :) My joints are a bit achey so I am going to try to take some breaks between my computer tasks. Hopefully, that will help. I plan to talk to my Doctor more at my next week’s appointment. Speaking of the appointment, I am nervous about it. It’s a big one. I have to do my glucose test and hope that I don’t get sick when drinking the super sweet stuff. Also, I pray that I pass! I sure hope I don’t have gestational diabetes. Ulgh! In addition to that test, we have our big ultrasound that day that will check on Jack’s cysts and my marginal placenta previa. Of course, I also hope that they find nothing else.

I have been pretty good about not worrying myself to death throughout this pregnancy, but admittedly as of late I find myself worrying a bit more. I worry about something going wrong. I worry about doing things wrong and harming our baby. I worry about not going full-term and then at times I worry about not being a good mom when he is born. I know none of these worries help anything, but I can’t help it. I have this anxiety building up, especially about this next appointment. A lot of things that will go on that day. Ulghh! I hope all goes well. I hope all checks out okay. Ok, I am going to stop now. We’ll find out soon enough.

Anyways, on a good note, I am 26 weeks and 2 days today. My belly is big. Jack is moving. I have heartburn practically all the time (not a pleasant thing, but still). Hawaii was fun. It was great to spend relaxing days with LOML. We even experienced some excitement with the earthquake that hit Hawaii on October 15th. Luckily, we weren’t on the Big Island but Maui which experienced no damage. We were without power for 4 hours, but other than that all was well. Jack got into the excitement by bouncing around when it all happened. I never experienced an earthquake before so I had no point of reference but LOML who has noted that it was a significant one at 6.7. I was up but it sure got LOML out of bed. Talk about a rude awakening! :)

After that, we just spent the rest of vacation enjoying Maui. It was quite hot which didn’t help with my swelling any but oh well. Maui was great, but it is nice to be back home again. I could do without all the chores but a minor price to pay for all the comforts of home. I have to tackle some guest room clean-up in the next few weeks since my folks may be coming to visit in a few weeks. I still have to focus on some nursery decoration stuff (like sewing curtains etc), but hopefully will get to it all in due time.

For right now, I am continuing to focus on staying healthy. I am trying to eat better and get rest whenever I can. The weather has been really nice here in Las Vegas so LOML & I have started on some evening walks which is always a good thing. I don’t try to overdo it but figure some exerxcise is a good thing.

Anyways, that’s how things stand. I continue to pray and hope that all is well with our baby. I want nothing more than for him to be healthy and happy. I hope I am doing a good job.

Oh well – speaking of job, I have to get back to mine. Loads to tackle. Hope everyone is well. Have a good day/week everyone!
