My Story

BEHIND "TRYING CONCEPTION"
I am 29 years old and married to a wonderful man, lovingly referred to LOML ("Love of my Life") for almost 2 years. LOML is 32 years old and we live in flashy Las Vegas. No, I am not a Lounge Singer and neither is LOML. We’re a transplanted Graphic Designer/Software Developer Combo from sunny California. Believe it or not, there is normal life outside of the neon-filled Strip where the phrase "What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas" is taken more like a mantra than the snappy tagline Advertisers intended it to be.

We have been trying to expand our family for about the length of our marriage only to discover that “getting knocked up” is not as easy as people make it sound…at least it isn’t for us! After trying unsuccessfully on our own for a year, we’ve finally put ourselves into the capable hands of Dr. Bow Tie who is guiding us through the treacherous waters called IVF and other kinds of Artificial Insemination. I have been diagnosed with being "anovulatory" aka I don’t ovulate normally if at all on my own. I went through extensive Diagnostic Testing and got the a-okay from Dr BT in regards to my other reproductive organs…just gotta’ get the synching up thing right! We have done 3 rounds of Clomid, 1 Femara/IUI Cycle, 1 IVF Cycle and are en route to undergo IVF #2 in late January 2006.

So, this is where “Trying Conception” starts. Here I plan to recount the craziness that is part of being infertile and trying to beat the odds. If anything I hope it keeps me and hubby sane while I get pumped with hormones and prodded and pricked like the human pin cushion I have become.

Disclaimer: I am by far no expert on this whole baby-making thing (obviously). "Trying Conception" is simply a place to journal my experience with the path to mommyhood! I welcome people’s comments but please keep them well-intentioned. I don’t mind a healthy debate and differing opinions however will draw the line at unnecessary name calling and judgemental crap that has no viable basis! Let’s try to play nice! :)

On a design note, I want to give props to www.squidfingers.com for the great pattern! Thanks, Travis! Your patterns rock!

The bee/flower photograph as well as the photos taken on the “About Me” page were taken by my amazing LOML. Besides being a kick-ass Software Developer, he’s also an incredible photographer. Yes, I am gushing, but wouldn’t you? :)
